What to expect from your heat pump survey
Planning your heat pump installation
Your survey is the opportunity to turn an initial heat pump conversation into a plan for your home. It helps the installer and Q Smart’s design team understand the property, the practical work and your priorities.
Start with how you use your home
Be ready to talk about your existing heating, how many people live in the property and your hot water use. Mention rooms that feel difficult to heat, any planned building work and anything you want the new system to improve.
You do not need to arrive with a technical specification. Your role is to explain the home and your expectations; the installer and design team help translate that into the project brief.
Make the relevant areas accessible
The installer needs to gather information about the building and existing heating arrangements. Where practical and safe, provide access to rooms, radiators, the boiler or other heat source, and any hot water cylinder.
Have any available plans, insulation details or information about recent alterations ready. Do not open electrical equipment, remove covers or enter unsafe areas to prepare for the visit.
Discuss where the equipment could go
The survey is a useful time to discuss potential positions for the outdoor unit and indoor equipment, along with access and the routes that connect them. Tell the installer about how you use the garden, storage areas and rooms near the proposed locations.
These are design decisions to review, not positions to finalise on appearance alone. If you have a preference or concern, raise it while the options can still be considered.
Ask these questions before the plan is finalised
What equipment is proposed, and where would it be positioned?
Are any changes to the radiators, hot water system or controls being considered?
What is included in the proposal, and is any additional work needed?
What disruption should we expect, and when will the installation programme be agreed?
Who will explain the controls and be our first contact afterwards?
Ask for anything unclear to be explained in plain language. The survey should help you make an informed decision, not leave you guessing about the next stage.
What happens after the survey?
Your local installer provides the survey information to Q Smart. Once the information is complete, Q Smart turns around the heat pump design within 72 working hours. The design and final scope support the next discussion about the installation.
The design turnaround is separate from the installation date. Equipment availability, the agreed work and regional installer capacity all need to be coordinated.
Keep a clear point of contact
Your local installer remains the familiar contact for your home, backed by Q Smart’s specialist team. Keep a note of questions as they arise and raise any changes to your plans before the installation is scheduled.
